Elected as the Region 4 (upper midwestern United States) representative for the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS). (2000-2002, re-elected for 2003-2005) Extensive activity involved in developing regular chapters as well as student chapters throughout the region.
Appointed Chair of the Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society Student Activities Committee (2003-2005). Considerable activities involved in judging the student paper competition, which involves obtaining two reviews for each of the 311 student papers submitted, analyzing the results, selecting the 15 finalists, conducting the final day long society-wide presentations at the annual conference, and selecting the ultimate winners. Helped initiate web-based review submission for the contest.
Served on the Finance Committee of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society. (2000-2002) Asked to continue serving (2002-2004).
