Participant Eligibility

PUB provides Service Scholarships valued at more than $4,800.00 per participant per year. Being a member of PUB is like having a scholarship because there is no cost to members. Students who wish to join and benefit from the program must meet the following eligibility requirements.

  1. Parents/guardians do not have a bachelor’s degree.
  2. Attend one of the following target schools in the ninth or tenth grade.

    • Pontiac Northern High School
    • Pontiac Central High School
    • Oak Park High School

  3. Household income falls within federal guidelines
  4. U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident
  5. Be serious about preparing for college
  6. Maintain a cumulative G.P.A. (grade point average) of 2.5 or demonstrate potential to do so
  7. Have a need for the services PUB provides

Partnerships

Students who are members of PUB may also participate in the McCree Scholars Program and GEAR UP. Dual membership in other academic programs will be worked out on an individual basis.

How to Apply

Students who wish to participate in the program should apply early. Applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. The major annual recruitment periods are February-April and September-October. To apply, please print out and complete the application and essay forms. Send the completed forms with teacher recommendations and parent income information to the Project Advisor at the address listed below. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact the office and speak to the Project Advisor.

The Process

Only completed application packets will be considered. Once the completed application is received, an interview will be scheduled for eligible applicants and their parents. All applicants are notified in writing of the outcome. Students who are offered membership must confirm acceptance by attending orientation with a parent.
