Welcome to Wellness, Health Promotion and Injury Prevention
The School of Health Sciences introduced a new bachelor’s degree program in fall 2002 in Wellness, Health Promotion and Injury Prevention (WHP). The WHP curriculum aims to produce broadly educated wellness generalists with additional expertise in a specific area of interest. The degree will buck the trend toward narrow specialization and will create well-rounded professionals with a thorough knowledge of healthy living.
Students choose one of eight focus areas:
- Additional Major in Psychology (targeting psycho-social issues and human health behaviors).
- General Health Enhancement (minor in psychology, plus possible additional minor).
- Health Promotion Intervention Strategies, emphasizing legislation, managed care and human resources (options for different minors possible e.g. HRD minor in training and development).
- Complementary Medicine, exploring different healing traditions (options for different minors possible).
- Injury Prevention (minor in occupational safety and health possible).
- Exercise Science (minor in exercise science).
- Pre-Health Professional focus (preparation toward careers in medicine or dentistry).
- Nutrition and Health focus (minor in nutrition and health).
