Purpose
In recognition of the importance of excellent teaching as central to Oakland University's mission, as fundamental to the learning and productivity of our students, and as paramount to the intellectual strength of the community, Naim and Ferial Kheir and John D. and Dortha J. Withrow have established endowed teaching excellence awards. They provide annual cash awards to faculty members in the School of Engineering and Computer Science (SECS) who exemplify outstanding teaching.
Nomination Process
The nomination process will be organized by the Dean of the School of Engineering and Computer Science and will proceed as follows:
- Solicitation of nominations from students
- Contacts and input from alumni
- Input from student professional organizations
- All nominations shall be reviewed by department heads by March 21
- Each department head is to select up to three individuals from the nominations and various inputs and complete a one-page recommendation for each
- Information to be submitted to the Dean by March 28
Selection Process
The selection process will be organized by the Dean of the School of Engineering and Computer Science and will proceed as follows:
- List of candidates to the Selection Committee by April 4
- The Kheir and Withrow Selection Committees will be comprised of the following:
- Two members from the School of Engineering and Computer Science Advisory Board
- Dean of the School
- One or two past faculty awardees (if applicable)
- Selection committee will decide on the award by April 18
