- Choosing search terms - Start with the obvious. If you're looking for general information on scholarships, try "scholarships." If you’re looking for more specific information (for example, art history scholarships), you may want to try multiple searches (i.e., "art history scholarships," "art history" and "scholarships").
- Capitalization - Searches are NOT case sensitive. All letters, regardless of how you type them, will be understood as lower case. For example, searches
for george washington, George Washington and gEoRgE wAsHiNgToN all will return the same results.
- You should search against Google when you are searching for very specific information (i.e., "Master of Science in Chemistry").
- You should search against the OU Managed Search Directory when you are searching for general information. Keep your search terms broad (i.e., "Chemistry" rather than
"Oakland University Department of Chemistry").
