What is OU-Web?

OU-Web is an authentication system for certain Oakland University web applications. Users with OU-Web accounts will be able to login to these applications using their personal OU-Web username / password. Some of the applications that use OU Web Authentication are:

  • IT and ITI helpdesks
  • OU Forums Management
  • Department Waitlists

Note that just because you have an OU-Web account doesn't mean you have access to ALL OU-Web applications. In most cases, your OU-Web Account has to be added to the specific application in order for you to be able to enter that application. For instance, even if you have an OU-Web account, you won't have access to the ITI helpdesk unless you are granted access by the ITI helpdesk administrator.

Who gets an OU-Web account?

OU-Web is integrated with Banner. At a scheduled time each day, OU-WEB queries Banner for core information about faculty and staff members from designated employee groups. Specifically, the interface looks for employees that meet the following criteria:

  • Employee has one of the following status code: A, F, P in the employee profile view.
  • Employee has a valid OAKU e-mail in the Banner employee e-mail view.
  • Employee belongs to one of the following ECLS groups:

    • AA - Academic Administrator
    • DD - Academic Dean
    • YY - Academic Research
    • PF - Admin Professional Full-time
    • PP - Admin Professional Part-time
    • CA - Casual
    • CM - Casual Monthly
    • CE - CE & Labor Studies Ctr Instruc
    • CX - Clerical Tech Excluded FT
    • CF - Clerical Tech Full-time
    • CH - Clerical Tech Hourly
    • CP - Clerical Tech Part-time
    • DF - Dispatcher-Full-time
    • EE - Executive
    • FF - Faculty
    • IC - Individual Contract - Coaches
    • IF - Individual Contract Full-Time
    • IH - Individual Contract Hourly
    • IP - Individual Contract Part-Time
    • MB - MBPAC - Hourly
    • MS - MBPAC - Salary
    • MC - Misc Child Care Center - Time
    • MF - Miscellaneous Full-time
    • MH - Miscellaneous MBH
    • MP - Miscellaneous Part-time
    • LL - Part-time Faculty
    • OF - Police Officer Full-time
    • SF - Police Sergeant Full-time
    • RR - Researcher
    • HF - Service Maintenance Full-time
    • LS - Special Lecturers
    • TE - Temporary
    • VF - Visiting Faculty

Unless the user meets ALL of these criteria in Banner, he/she will NOT be added to the OU-web system automatically.

In cases where a user (such as a student) needs access but does not meet the interface criteria, he/she can request that an account be manually created for him/her. Please speak to the administrator if you need an account.

What is my OU-Web username and password?

Your OU-Web username is the same as your Oakland University e-mail name. So if your OU e-mail address is jones@oakland.edu, your OU-Web account name is jones. Your password is generally your birthdate (minus the slashes and any leading zeros; e.g., if your birthdate is 01/20/1970, your password is 1201970). We strongly encourage all OU-Web users to change their default starting password by logging into the login box, above.
