A Message From The President:

August 30th was the 2006 transitional board meeting, held at Europa Bistro in Rochester. A good time was had by all and the chapter wands were passed onto the new board members. I would truly like to thank all of the outgoing and incoming officers for serving Theta Psi this past year. I know we will be seeing all of you at future TP events. Our new officers, Karen Dunn, Laura Pittiglio, Deb Slago, Carrie Motyka, Meghan Harris, Gary Moore, Amy Allor, Barbara Harrison, Jessica Weiman, Jamie Penprase, Susan Guinn, Jill Crepeau, Rosanna Maddox, and newsletter chief Christian Ramirez, all promise fresh and exciting views for carrying on the business of our chapter. A special thanks to outgoing president Barb Penprase for all her hard work the past couple of years.

This year Theta Psi has plans for three chapter presentations. The first one will happen October 24, 2006 and will feature a panel presentation by the Gerontological Nursing Research Group from our very own OU School of Nursing. The topic will be, Behavioral issues in dementia and Alzheimer's disease: Therapeutic use of environment. This panel group will discuss the cutting edge evidence based research on using environments in the care of older adults at home and in the hospital. Keep your eyes peeled for upcoming news about this event, the February Collaborative Presentation and the Annual SON Research Day, as well as our fundraising events in our newsletter that will be going out the end of this month.

Theta Psi continues to need your support to maintain our commitment to scholarship, leadership, and excellence in clinical practice. Please renew your membership at www.nursingsociety.org. I would also like to take this opportunity to invite Theta Psi members to nominate nurses working in the community who have contributed to our profession in some special way for community membership. I look forward to a productive and fun year, and please feel free to contact me with any questions or suggestions.

On Behalf of the Board,

Cheryl Riley-Doucet, President
