Pre-Nursing Requirements

If you are a current Oakland University pre-nursing student, call for an advising appointment with your Academic Adviser, April Thomas-Powell. Call (248) 370-4253 to schedule an appointment.

At your appointment, a plan of study will be created. Discussion regarding options for a successful transition to OU will be addressed as well as any concerns you may have. If you have transfer coursework which has not yet been evaluated by your adviser, please bring a copy of your most current transcript or grade report to your appointment.

If you are a current Oakland University student and wish to change your major to nursing, you are required to attend an information session. When the information session is finished, a change of major form can be completed by you and signed by an Academic Adviser for submission to the Registrar's Office. If you have never attended a community college or university and are considering attending Oakland University, you are required to attend an information session. Information sessions are held several times a month alternating days of the week and times for the convenience of prospective students. Information sessions last approximately one hour. You should request an information packet prior to attending. Call the Nursing Advising Office at 248.370-4253 to request a packet be mailed to you. See information session link below.

If you are a prospective transfer student, you are required to attend a prospective student information session. In order to have your transcripts evaluated, you will need to apply to Oakland University as a transfer student. Once the admissions office receives all of your materials (application, application fee, official transcripts), they will forward your file to the School of Nursing. The School of Nursing will do an official evaluation and mail an official plan of study to your home address. The plan of study will reflect what courses have transferred and what courses you have left to complete.
