Dear Colleague,

Honor nursing and recognize exceptional nurses who work with you by nominating them for the 20th Annual Nightingale Awards for Nursing®. Every day nurses provide compassionate care while using critical thinking skills and exceptional clinical judgment. In some settings nurses are noted for innovation and entrepreneurial talent in solving health care problems. It's hard to believe, but we will be celebrating twenty years of recognizing 124 exceptional nurses in the state of Michigan. Please take the time to nominate that special nurse who has significantly impacted your life or the lives of others.

Each award winner receives recognition at the dinner as well as a $1,000 cash award, a Nightingale statue and a Nightingale pin. Runner-ups receive a plaque and a Nightingale pin. All nominees receive a certificate and are invited to the Nightingale dinner to be publicly recognized.

The award categories include administration, advance nurse practice, education/research, nursing in the community (i.e. entrepreneur, community health, home care, case management), long-term care/rehabilitation, an outstanding Oakland University School of Nursing alumni, two staff nurse awards and the People's Choice Award. The People's Choice Award is honoring a nurse who you felt had a significant impact on yours or a family member's life. There is a People's Choice Award nomination form as well as a sample of a nomination on our website above.

Recipients of the "Nightingale Awards for Nursing®" will be honored on Thursday, May 8, 2008 at the San Marino Club in Troy. This year's presenting sponsor is Henry Ford Health System. We enjoy the support of many other healthcare systems throughout the area as well. We hope you will join us in honoring nursing and supporting Oakland University nursing students through the resultant scholarships and educational supplies needed.
