By partnering with key health care systems, such as Crittenton Hospital Medical Center, Beaumont Hospitals, St. John Health System and Providence Hospital, Oakland offers a nursing education that keeps our students on the cutting edge of health care practice. The only education provider in Oakland County offering undergraduate, degree completion and master's programs in nursing, accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Oakland meets the needs of an intense work environment by integrating clinical knowledge, communication and caring expertise, and information management into a program that develops the professional skills and leadership qualities necessary for nurses of the 21st century. In Fall 2006, we launched the Doctor of Nursing Practice, the only program of its kind in Michigan. Our first cohort will graduate in December 2007 while the second cohort is scheduled to begin in Fall 2007. We are proud of our Oakland University/Beaumont Graduate Program of Nurse Anesthesia which was ranked sixth in the United States by U.S. News and World Report’s 2004 edition of “America’s Best Graduate Schools.” With market-driven programs, including master’s programs in adult acute care clinical nursing, adult/gerontological nursing and nursing education, School of Nursing graduates apply nursing theory, principles of advance practice, ethics, pharmacology, patho-physiology and evidence-based practice to provide appropriate care for their clients. The School of Nursing is providing program alternatives for its nursing students such as the Accelerated Second Degree BSN program, which is a full-time, 12-month program for those students with a bachelor degree who qualify. Also, by utilizing advanced technology, every required nursing course in the RN/BSN Degree Completion Sequence is offered online, making it easier for practicing nurses to advance in the highly competitive health care industry. Each year, Oakland University pays tribute to the best and brightest in professional nursing at the Nightingale Awards for Nursing dinner event. Sponsored by corporate and community members, the awards banquet publicly honors nine of Michigan's top nurses for their remarkable and unrelenting work in exceeding the standards of health care delivery. I encourage you to visit our web site often for the latest news and updates on OU’s School of Nursing. Whether you are seeking an undergraduate degree, advanced degree or a graduate certificate in nursing, come see for yourself all that OU’s School of Nursing has to offer. Linda Thompson Adams
