The Loneliness of a Fiction Writer: Survival Tactics in the Territories
Presenter: George Dila

George reveals how he carries on in the land of the culturally underserved (an official State of Michigan designation). Or, is he just trying to make it sound dreadful so we don’t follow him there? And just what is Suckerfest, anyway?

Bio: George Dila, born and raised in Detroit, educated (to a point) at Wayne State University, denizen of big cities for several decades, moved to the small west-Michigan town of Ludington seven years ago. In 2001 he formed Ludington Visiting Writers, which in six years under his direction brought over 75 of Michigan’s best poets and prose writers to Ludington for readings, conferences, poetry festivals and other literary events. His own fiction and personal essays have appeared in North American Review, Driftwood, Current, Traverse, Christian Science Monitor, Detroit Free Press and other publications. His collection of short stories, The End of the World, was published by Pure Heart Press in 2006.
