Creating a Heading in Moodle - adding an image
1. Select the desired Moodle course.
2. Move the mouse curser to the top right corner. Select Turn editing on.
3. Move the mouse curser to the desired topic block.
4. Select the
(hand icon) in the top left corner of the topic block. A new window will open.
5. Type the heading in the Summary text box.
6. Highlight the text to make changes using the HTML editor tool bar. (refer to picture below)

7. Select Save Changes at the bottom. The course's main page will open. View the heading. If changes need to be made, select the
under the heading.
HTML tool bar attribute information
Font - Moodle has a few fonts to use to change the appearance of the text.
Point Size - determines how large or small the font will appear.

Text format - Changes the size and style of the text. It is recommended to use a text format if the heading is more than one line.
Font style - Changes the appearance of the text.
= bold
= italic
= underline
= strike through
Subscript - changes text to be smaller and lowered. Superscript - changes text to be smaller and higher.
Edit
- Eliminate Word formatting from text added to Moodle.
Undo
- to undo last action. Redo
- to redo last action.
Alignment - Changes where the text is positioned on the page.
= left aligned
= center aligned
= right aligned
= justified aligned
Tabs - Indents text from the right or left. To remove tab, re-select the chosen icon.
= moves text from right to left
= moves text from left to right
Lists - Organize points by numbers or bullets. Press enter to end the numbers/bullets.
= numbered list = bulleted list
= move list to left
= move list to right
Color - Moodle has various colors to change the appear of the text.
= add color to the selected text.
= add color behind the selected text.
Horizontal line
- a horizontal line can be used to separate text or add decorative feature.
Anchor
- is a link to different areas of the topic block. This can be used to easily navigate through information.
To create a anchor:
i. Highlight a word that will become a link to the bottom of the topic block.
ii. Select
anchor. A window will open.
iii. Type in the desired name for the anchor. Select o.k.
iv. Highlight the same word. Select
link. A new window will open.
v. Select the correct anchor title. Select o.k.
Links - Moodle allows text to link to a web site.
= link
= remove link from text
= stops Moodle from linking text into the glossary activity tool.
To create a Link:
i. Highlight the desired text that will become the link to the web site. A new window entitled insert link will open.
ii. Type in the desired URL, the title of the web site. Select the target area where the web site will open to be viewed.
Image - Pictures can be saved and inserted in the heading.
To insert an image:
i. Select
. A new window entitled insert image will open.
ii. Move the mouse cursor to the bottom left corner and select browse. A new window entitled file upload will open.
iii. Search for the desired image and select open.
iv. Select Upload towards the bottom of the insert image window.
v. Select the blue title of the desired file. The image will appear to the right of the files list.
vi. Type in the alternate text box a short title to describe the picture.
vii. Select ok at the top right corner.
Table - A table can be added in the heading by selecting
. If more table options are need, select
from the far right corner of the HTML tool bar.
Smiley face - Moodle has a feature that enables users to "show emotion"
i. Double click
to insert a smiley face. A new window open.
ii. Select the desired face.
Special Character - Moodle offers characters that may enhance a heading.
i. Double click
to insert a special character. A new window open.
ii. Select the desired special character, then select close.
Find and Replace
- Save time by using this feature to find and replace words within the topic block.
Code - to view, write or read HTML code, select
