If you are teaching multiple sections of the same course and want all of them combined into one course, then choose this option.

If the sections are completely online courses, they must be approved through the Provost's Office.

You should not have any content in your courses. This merging process will destroy the existing course content and create one new and empty merged course. Once that is done you may restore any backed-up course content to the new merged course.

A metacourse is a collaborative course space shared by a group of courses. A metacourse supplements the original courses - it does not replace them, so no course content is overwritten with this option.

For example, if you had three courses that you wanted to keep as separate entities, but you also wanted to have a fourth supplemental course where students from the three "official" courses could participate in occasional shared activities, then you'd want a metacourse.
