Installing the Synergy Client Software

Synergy is the CSITS equipment database, available to any computer networked to the OUnet. Before a computer can access the database, however, it must have client software installed on it. The following procedure describes how to install the client software and access the synergy database.

BEFORE you install Synergy on your computer, contact the CSITS office at 370-2461, or email csits@oakland.edu for a username and password.

For Windows Based Computers...

  1. Click on START, choose RUN, type \\10.30.4.23\client\setup.exe in the OPEN field, and press ENTER.
  2. The Synergy installation program should start. Select all defaults - when asked to input a server IP, use 10.30.4.23. Leave the port number at the default (1234).
  3. After the setup is complete, delete the "Setup Client 2.0" icon in the synergy group - you don't need it.
  4. Start up Synergy by double clicking on the Synergy Client icon. The first time you run Synergy, you will see a dialogue box come up which requires you to enter data into a number of fields, as follows:
    • Under Login Configuration Name, use your e-mail name.
    • Click on Address/Port set locally.
    • Make sure the Synergy port is 1234
    • Under Server's IP Address or Domain Name type in 10.30.4.23
    • Under room name type in HEADEND (all caps).
    • Under Default user name, put in itc (this is the generic login that gives you access to basic services - make sure it is lowercase).
  5. Select OK, and a window will come up saying "trying to find server". After a minute, it should ask you for the password - if you are using the itc username, use itc as your password (note that both username and password should be lowercase). Congratulations! You're connected.

This program does not work on Mac computers

Changing the settings on Synergy Client

If you are a Synergy user and the program is not connecting, please read the information below

Due to the changes in the network architecture the IP address settings on Synergy need to be changed to keep the program functional.

  1. Load the Synergy Client program.
  2. When you get the error message press the “OK” button.
  3. Click on the “Server” menu.
  4. Select “Settings …”
  5. Click on the “Edit” button.
  6. Under the server IP Address it should currently say “141.210.40.20”. Replace it with “10.30.4.23”
  7. Click on the “OK” button.
  8. Click on the “Done” button.
  9. Click on the key button to login.
Now you should be logged into Synergy. If you have any problems with this procedure please contact Classroom Support at x2461 or email csits@oakland.edu for assistance.
