Rochester named one of the top 100 places to live
The City of Rochester, Oakland University’s hometown, was recognized as one of the top 100 places to live in America by Relocate America. This is the 10th year Relocate America has compiled the best places to live in the United States, determined by statistics and feedback of the people who live and work in these communities. Nominations include data about education, employment, economy, crime, parks, recreation and housing.

ESL Institute Programs provide instruction in all English language skills at all proficiency levels to help individuals:
- improve English skills
- improve TOEFL scores
- prepare for admission to U.S. universities
Placement
The ESL Center administers an English Proficiency Test to students enrolling in the Institute. Students are then placed in courses at one of three levels (beginning, intermediate or advanced) based on the results of their English Proficiency Test and subject to course enrollments.
Schedule
In general, the times and duration of the ESL courses follow the Oakland University academic calendar and schedule of classes.
Costs
The tuition cost for full-time enrollment for the ESL Institute is $1800. There is no application fee. Students not required to enroll full-time for the ESL Institute may elect individual courses appropriate to their level with the permission of the ESL Center. The fee for each course is $600.
Note: Full-time enrollment is required for those students attending under a student visa.
ESL courses may also be taken for regular college credit. A schedule of fees by class standing and residence can be found at: http://www3.oakland.edu/oakland/financialaid/costofattendance.htm. Application for ESL courses with college credit is through the University Admissions Office.
Housing
On-campus university housing may be available for students enrolled in ESL coursework if they can satisfy the university's housing eligibility requirements.
