Detergents Can Distort a Protein's Conformation and Interfere with Protein-Protein Interactions

TORDETERGENTSAddition of detergents to a solution of proteins often times leads to the denaturation of their native structure. When a mild detergent is added at low concentration, the effect on structure can be small and localized, resulting only in partial disruption of native properties. Sarkosyl is used to induce minute perturbations in the transcription complex, by that giving us an opportunity for further insight into the mechanism of transcription.
