Research Projects Dr. Chaudhry studies a wide-range of environmental and basic and applied biomedical problems. His research includes: Embryonic Stem Cell Development and Differentiation - osteogenesis and neurogenesis; Tissue Engineering; Regulation of Gene Expression; Metabolic Pathways of Hazardous Chemicals; Environmental Biotechnology & Toxicology. Elucidation of cellular development and differentiation, specifically osteogenesis and neurogenesis using embryonic stem cells as a model system. Interdisciplinary research regarding human tissue engineering, specifically use of embryonic stem cells for generating skeletal and orofacial structures. Treatment of retinal diseases by embryonic stem cells. Regeneration of nucleus pulposus (intervertebral disc) using embryonic stem cells. Role of stem cells in vascular injury and repair. Development of toxicological assays, specifically embryotoxicity test for screening chemicals, drugs and nanomaterials. His research has been funded by various private, state and federal agencies including Beaumont Foundation, William Beaumont Hospital and National Science Foundation.
