MAKING A GIFT TO THE DEPARTMENT OF ART AND ART HISTORY
The Department of Art and Art History has several academic areas that need your support. Gifts to the department are a vital means to ensure that Art and Art History students continue receiving a high-quality undergraduate experience. There are two ways in which you can make a gift:
1) send a check made payable to Oakland University, with the name of the account or endowment in the memo field. Send to the Department of Art and Art History, Oakland University, 310 Wilson Hall Rochester, MI 48309-4401, c/o Professor Andrea Eis, Chair. We will see that your gift is sent to the appropriate office for acknowledgment.
2) or, make a gift online, by clicking here Oakland University Relations,. This will take you to the Campaign for OU webpage. Then click on MAKE A GIFT and fill out the form. Under DESIGNATION: CATEGORY open the box which reads “Unrestricted” and select “College of Arts and Sciences.” Then select one of the following FUNDS, and indicate the AMOUNT of the gift:

WHAT YOUR GIFT WILL DO FOR US.
DEPARTMENT OF ART AND ART HISTORY GIFT FUND
The Art and Art History Gift Fund supports both, student and faculty activities. The department uses these gifts to fund student awards, such as the annual Writing Excellence and Student Service Awards. It also supports student study and travel abroad and travel to art museums. The Gift Fund also provides support to our student organization, La Pittura; helps with the funding of student and faculty exhibitions in the Oakland University Art Gallery; and supports the annual Art and Art History Alumni Lecture. Through the AAH Gift Fund, the department is also able to give matching funds to art and art history majors who are recipients of University Undergraduate Research Grants, to supplement their initial grants.
FRED M. BRAUN MEMORIAL LECTURE FUND
The Fred M. Braun Memorial Lecture Fund was established by Jean Braun, professor emeritus at Oakland University, in memory of her husband Fred M. Braun, to commemorate his love of the visual arts. The fund supports an annual scholarly lecture in art, art history or architecture.
JOHN B. CAMERON ENDOWMENT IN ART HISTORY
The John B. Cameron Endowment in Art History provides funds for art history majors and recent alumni to travel to Great Britain, Europe and Asia. The Cameron fund was established in 2008 by Professor Janice Schimmelman, in memory of her husband John Cameron. John was an art history professor and scholar of medieval architectural sculpture and nineteenth-century French photography, who taught, mentored and guided students, faculty and staff at Oakland University for 43 years. The first award will be given in 2010.
MARION ADAMS BUNT ENDOWED FUND
Marion Adams Bunt Endowed Fund awards are granted to undergraduate students majoring in either art history or studio art. Mrs. Bunt was an alumna in art history and a former staff member in the Department of Art and Art History. Students are granted awards from the fund, established by Mrs. Bunt in 2006, to support curricular and extracurricular activities relating to art history and/or studio art that will enhance their educational experience at Oakland University, including individual and/or group travel and study in the United States and abroad, attendance at conferences and symposia, driving costs associated with internships, and other research or creative activities, such as a work of art which requires funds not normally available to a student.
MARK MURPHY ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP
The Mark Murphy Endowed Scholarship was established in 2000, by the family and friends of Brian Murphy, Professor of English, and the Department of Art and Art History. It honors the memory of Professor Murphy's son Mark, who was a photographer and graphic designer. This tuition scholarship is annually awarded to an undergraduate studio art major who shows promise in the field of photography.
MILDRED B. MATTHEWS ART HISTORY SCHOLARSHIP
The Matthews Scholarship honors Mildred Gregory Byars Matthews, wife of George T. Matthews. Mildred Matthews was an art historian specializing in American Art who taught at Oakland University in the early years of the department. The scholarship is funded by an endowment established by George Matthews, a charter member of the Oakland University faculty, former Chair of the Department of History and Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. The award supports tuition for an art history major who is actively engaged in the arts.
OAKLAND UNIVERSITY ART GALLERY GIFTS
Gifts made to the Oakland University Art Gallery help to fund exhibitions, catalogues and other published materials, and educational programs associated with exhibitions.
