About the Art History Program

Art history is an ideal curriculum for students who wish to investigate a broad range of humanistic disciplines. The visual arts are studied in their historical context in terms of the cultural, economic, philosophical, political, religious, social and technological conditions that determine content and form. The department also emphasizes critical thinking, writing and visual analysis of individual works of art. The art history program provides both majors and non-majors with a thorough introduction to the visual arts of both Western and non-Western cultures throughout history.
