Study Abroad

Study AbroadThe department encourages students to take advantage of study abroad opportunities. Group trips for studio art and art history students are occasionally arranged for winter breaks. Department faculty members accompany the students on these trips, and two-credit course work is an available option.



2011
Directed Study in Photography, 4 credits, June 21-July 14, 2011
Students studied photography on the Greek island of Hydra, and then visited ancient sites at Mycenae, Corinth, Epidauros, Delphi and Athens. The three-week course was done in conjunction with a Department of Music, Theatre and Dance theatre study abroad program.


2010
Students visited Spain on the winter break trip.

2009
Students visited Italy: Rome, Florence, Pisa and Siena on the winter break trip.


2008
Students traveled to Berlin, Prague and Vienna on a winter break trip.

Spring Program in China (May 9 – June 18, 2008): Students visited ancient and modern sites in Beijing, Xian and Tianjin in North China during the first 5 weeks; then for the 6th week tour, they traveled to Yunnan, Shanghai, Suzhou and Hangzhou in the South.

2007
Students visited Paris and Amsterdam on a winter break trip.

Students visited Athens, Delphi, Mycenae and Epidaurus in Greece on a trip between winter and spring terms.

2006
russia Students from the Masters of Liberal Studies program and the Department of Art and Art History visited Russia: Moscow and St. Petersburg on a winter break trip. Highlights: Red Square, Kremlin, Pushkin Museum, Tretiakov Gallery, Mayakovsky Museum, Abramtsevo artist's colony, Sergiev Posad, Hermitage Museum, Russian Museum, and performances at the Bolshoi and Mariinsky Theaters.

Students visited Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao and Toledo in Spain on a winter break trip

2005
Students visited Rome, Florence, Assisi and Pompeii in Italy on a winter break trip.

Various departmental grants are available for student travel: the Travel Stipend in Art and Art History, the Study and Travel Grant in Art and Art History, and the Travel to Art Museums Grant in Art and Art History. Check the Scholarships and Awards page for more information.
